FROG 2026 - Future and Reality of Gaming (Vienna)

The 20th edition of Vienna's games conference moves to the Belvedere 21 museum from 20 to 22 November 2026, with the theme "Playing Art", a playable games exhibition and free admission.

FROG (Future and Reality of Gaming) is a long-running Vienna conference about games, culture and research. Its 20th edition runs from 20 to 22 November 2026 at Belvedere 21, part of the Belvedere Museum, under the theme "Playing Art". It is organised by SUBOTRON and the Association for Applied Game Studies, in cooperation with the museum.

Friday opens with the games exhibition at 11:00, followed by on-stage presentations of student game prototypes and the Austrian Impact Game Idea 2026 award ceremony. Saturday and Sunday are given over to talks and sessions on games as artistic practice, museums, visual culture and playable heritage. The opening keynote comes from Stephan Schwingeler (HAWK University of Applied Sciences and Arts), titled "Game Art: Digital Games as Artistic Material".

The exhibition of playable prototypes runs across all three days. Admission is free, but registration is required through Eventbrite, and last-minute registration on site is possible if places remain. There is no online participation, though talks will be posted on YouTube afterwards.

This is a good fit for players, students and developers in the region who are interested in the ideas behind games rather than a big show floor.
