9.8 Million a Day? The FC 26 Number EA Won't Confirm - and Why It Matters

Take this with a grain of salt, because EA hasn't confirmed a thing: according to football-game YouTuber Nate Miller, better known as TheFutAccountant, a developer told him EA Sports FC 26 was pulling over 9.8 million daily active users in late June or July.

That's a claim from one content creator citing an unnamed source, so treat it as exactly that. But it's worth pausing on, because the publicly visible numbers tell a completely different story. On SteamCharts, FC 26 recently peaked at 122,006 concurrent players over 24 hours. Decent - but nowhere near "one of the biggest games on the planet" territory.

If the 9.8 million figure is even close to true, it means Steam is a rounding error for this series. The overwhelming majority of FC players are on consoles, invisible to public trackers - which honestly matches what I see in our region. Ask around: it's the one game that's on practically every PlayStation here, from student flats to family living rooms. Half the people playing it wouldn't call themselves gamers at all.

And that's exactly why the number matters, confirmed or not. A daily audience of that size explains everything about how EA behaves. Why Ultimate Team packs never change. Why the yearly release model survives every wave of criticism. Why prices only ever move in one direction. You don't rock a boat carrying almost ten million passengers a day.

There's a lesson about public data in here too. We love declaring games dead or alive based on Steam charts, but for console-first series - and football games in our region are console-first by a mile - Steam tells you almost nothing. FC 26 can look modest on a chart and still quietly be one of the most played games in the world.

Would I like EA to confirm real numbers? Sure. Publishers happily quote engagement stats when it suits them and go silent when it doesn't. Until then, this stays an interesting claim - but one that fits everything we already know about how this series lives around here: everywhere, every day, whether the charts see it or not.
