The KOTOR Remake Might Actually Show Its Face Again This Year
The on-again, off-again KOTOR remake might be re-revealed this year, per a new report. I've heard that before - and the 2003 original is still the smarter buy.

Every year or so the Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic remake crawls out of its bacta tank, waves, and disappears again. Now there's a fresh rumour it might actually be re-revealed this year - and honestly, I'll believe it when I see a trailer that doesn't get pulled two days later.
Here's the state of play. The remake was first announced back in late 2021, then went quiet, then reportedly changed studios and landed at Saber. Last week reports pointed to a possible 2028 release window. Reliable Star Wars insider 100% Star Wars (via Bespin Bulletin) reckons a proper re-reveal could come as soon as this year, and says Saber sources described a best-case of a mid-to-late 2027 launch - timed for Star Wars' 50th anniversary - before it slipped into 2028, which would line up with the original game's 25th birthday instead.
Take all of that with a fistful of salt. These are insider whispers, not a Lucasfilm press release.
Why this one still matters here
KOTOR is one of those RPGs people here genuinely have feelings about. It's the BioWare Star Wars game, the one with the twist, the one a whole generation played on a potato PC and never forgot. A remake done right could be huge.
But here's the thing - you don't have to wait. The original KOTOR sits on Steam and GOG for pocket change, goes on sale constantly for a couple of euros, and runs on basically anything. If you've never played it, that's your move regardless of what Saber does. There's even a solid mod scene that patches up the rough edges.
A remake in 2028, if it ships at all, is going to launch at full modern price - probably that 70-80 euro tier we've all learned to dread. The 2003 original for two euros is the better deal until proven otherwise. I want the remake to be great. I've just been burned by 'coming soon' too many times to clear a shelf for it yet.
