Two Nintendo Directs in Two Days - and One of Them Is All About Zelda's 40th

Forty years of Zelda. Let that sink in for a second. That little green tunic has been around longer than a lot of us reading this, and Nintendo is clearly in the mood to celebrate - because this week we're not getting one Direct, we're getting two, on back-to-back days.

First up on Tuesday is a dedicated Legend of Zelda 40th Anniversary Direct. Then on Wednesday, Nintendo follows it with a general Nintendo Direct plus a Treehouse: Live stream. That's a lot of Nintendo in a very short window, and honestly, I'm not complaining even a little.

If we set aside the game-specific presentations for Splatoon Raiders and Fire Emblem: Fortune's Weave, these are the first proper Directs since that big June showcase - the one that gave us our first look at the Ocarina of Time remake. And that's exactly why Tuesday has me so excited. Ocarina was my gateway Zelda. I still remember being hopelessly stuck in the Water Temple and refusing to look up help because that felt like cheating. If the anniversary show gives us a real, meaty look at that remake, I might actually tear up a bit.

The Wednesday Direct is the wildcard, and in a way that's the fun of it. General Directs are where Nintendo loves to spring surprises nobody saw coming - a revival out of nowhere, a shadow drop, some delightfully weird thing that becomes your family's new favorite. My nephew is already lobbying hard for anything Mario-shaped, and I've learned not to bet against him.

What I love most about this setup is that it gives the anniversary room to breathe. Zelda doesn't have to share a stage with everything else on Tuesday; it gets its own evening, its own spotlight, its own nostalgia trip. Then Wednesday can be pure chaos in the best Nintendo way, with Treehouse: Live sticking around afterwards for proper hands-on gameplay instead of just trailers.

So yes, clear your schedule for two evenings this week. I'll be the one on the couch humming Zelda's Lullaby and pretending I'm totally calm about it.
