VOID/BREAKER Review: A One-Man Shooter That Breaks Everything, Including Your Free Time

VOID/BREAKER leaves early access as a fast, destructive roguelite FPS with a gun-modding system you can lose whole evenings in. Runs blur together eventually, but at this price it is an easy recommendation. Score: 8/10.

VOID/BREAKER Review: A One-Man Shooter That Breaks Everything, Including Your Free Time

What it is

VOID/BREAKER is a roguelite first-person shooter from Stubby Games - which is to say, essentially one developer - published by Playstack. It entered Steam early access in August 2025 and hit 1.0 on November 4, 2026, landing on PC, PS5 and Xbox Series X|S on the same day. The pitch is simple: fast movement, guns you build from parts, and arenas you can blow apart.

How it plays

The first ten minutes sell it. You move quickly, you shoot quickly, and the geometry around you does not stay put for long. Walls give, cover crumbles, and a bad position can turn into a good one if you are willing to make a hole. Destruction is not a gimmick bolted on top - it is how you solve problems, and it gives fights a messy, improvised energy that most roguelite shooters lack.

The real hook, though, is the gun modding. Weapons are assembled from parts, and the parts talk to each other. Half the fun is noticing that one component quietly turns another into something absurd, then building a whole run around that discovery. When it clicks, it feels like you broke the game. That is exactly the feeling a roguelite should chase.

The highs

- Gunplay with real weight and speed; this is a shooter first, a roguelite second. - A modding system with genuine depth - experimentation is rewarded, not punished. - Destruction that changes how you fight instead of just how things look. - Joe Ford's soundtrack drives the pace nicely. - Fair pricing. On Steam it lists at 26.99 euros, and the launch discount (40 percent, until November 18) brings it to 16.19 euros. Early access players also get the Supporter's Pack for free.

The lows

Repetition is the old complaint and 1.0 does not fully bury it. After a dozen or so runs, the encounters start to feel familiar, and you notice the game leaning on its modding system to carry the variety. The visual style is clean but plain - functional more than memorable, which is understandable from a tiny team. Story exists, but you are not here for it.

Who it is for

If you like Roboquest, or you played the early access build and drifted away, the 1.0 is worth your time. If you need a strong narrative or wildly different biomes to stay motivated, you may burn out sooner. It is also on Game Pass at launch, so check your subscription before paying.

Verdict

VOID/BREAKER is the kind of game big outlets skip and shooter fans should not. It is fast, generous with its systems and honest about what it is. A bit more variety in the late game and it would be a must-have.
