GTA 6 Unlock Times: Midnight for Us, a 19-Hour Head Start for New Zealand
Rockstar has confirmed GTA 6's staggered launch on 19 November - roughly 15 regional unlock windows on PS5, midnight local time in Central Europe, and an old Xbox region trick that still seems to work. Here's what it actually means for players in our region.

Good news first: if you're in Central Europe, GTA 6 unlocks at midnight local time going into 19 November on PS5. No waiting until some American evening hour while half the internet is already posting clips. For once, the timezone math works in our favour.
Now the messier part. Rockstar isn't doing one global unlock. According to the PlayStation Store listings Eurogamer dug through, the PS5 version rolls out in around 15 regional windows, starting with New Zealand and stretching nearly 19 hours until the last regions get in. Your unlock time is tied to your PSN account's region and store, not to where your console physically sits.
That 19-hour gap is the real story. By the time the last players get in, New Zealand streamers will have had almost a full day with the game. If you care about going in blind, plan your mute lists now - story spoilers won't wait for your unlock window.
The New Zealand trick lives on - but only on Xbox
Xbox owners can seemingly still pull the classic move: switch the console's region to New Zealand and start playing up to 19 hours early. It's the same trick people have used for years, and Eurogamer reports it still appears to work here.
On PS5, forget it. Digital purchases are locked to the region of the account that bought them, so flipping a setting won't help. You'd need a separate New Zealand account with a local payment method, which for most people around here is more hassle than the head start is worth - and a good way to run into problems with your purchase later.
My honest take: midnight on the 19th is a perfectly fine deal for our region. We're near the front of the queue, not the back. The people I'd worry about are the ones tempted to buy sketchy 'NZ region' accounts from resellers in the coming weeks - that market will absolutely appear, and it's not worth risking a full-price purchase over half a day of early access. Set an alarm, dodge spoilers for one evening, and play it on your own account.
