Up to $205 Off a Switch 2 at Best Buy - Right Before the Price Goes Up

Honestly, the sentence that made me sit up wasn't the one about the discount - it was the little "by the way, the retail price goes up starting September 1" tucked in right beside it.

But let's do the good news first, because it really is good. As part of its 60th Anniversary Sale, Best Buy is taking $75 off the Nintendo Switch 2 - both the standalone console and the Choose Your Own Adventure Bundle - and on top of that it's offering boosted trade-in credit of up to $130 when you hand in your original Switch. Stack everything and you're looking at up to $205 in savings. IGN calls it possibly the best Switch 2 deal of the year so far, and I don't think that's hype. Discounts on this console have been genuinely rare.

The fine print, gently

A couple of honest caveats before anyone sprints to the checkout.

First, this is a trade-in deal at its heart. The full amount only happens if you say goodbye to your original Switch for good. And I'd genuinely think twice there. In so many families, the old Switch doesn't retire when the new one arrives - it becomes the kid's console, the second player in the household, the one that lives at grandma's. Mine went to my nephew, and honestly, our co-op evenings wouldn't exist without it. Credit is nice; a second console in the family is sometimes nicer.

Second, this is Best Buy, so it's a US offer. For those of us in Europe it's mostly a signal - a retailer finally willing to move on Switch 2 pricing - rather than something we can actually click on.

And then there's the timing. The deal lands with a deadline attached: the retail price goes up starting September 1. So this isn't just a sale, it's a "last call before it gets more expensive" sale. I'll say it kindly but clearly: consoles getting *more* expensive this deep into their life is not the direction any of us grew up expecting, and I don't love that a discount now doubles as a warning.

If you're in the US, you were upgrading anyway, and your old Switch really would just gather dust - this is about as good as it's gotten. Me, I keep thinking about that September date and hoping it doesn't become the new normal.
